Choose restaurant software by five things, in this order: whether it files tax in your country automatically, whether the till keeps selling when the internet drops, whether stock comes off a recipe rather than a guess, whether staff permissions go down to the individual button, and whether you own your ordering channel instead of renting it from an aggregator. Everything else — the look of the screen, the length of the feature list — is decided after those five. What to ask: Ask which tax authority it is integrated with by name, and whether the fiscal number prints on the customer receipt. "Tax ready" means nothing.
Our answer: FBR (IMS) and PRA in Pakistan, ZATCA (Fatoora) in Saudi Arabia, submitted as the sale is rung up, with the returned invoice number printed on the receipt as a verifiable QR code.
What to ask: Ask what happens mid-service when the line drops, and how the software knows not to record the same sale twice when it comes back.
Our answer: Cashiers stay signed in and sales are stored on the till, then uploaded exactly once when the connection returns. A power cut or a dropped line never stops service.
What to ask: Ask whether selling one dish deducts its ingredients, or only the dish. Without recipes you can count sales but never a margin.
Our answer: Every dish is tied to its ingredients with quantities and waste, so a sale deducts flour, chicken and oil at cost and the reports show profit per dish, not just takings.
What to ask: Ask to see a role that can take a payment but cannot apply a discount, and check the restriction is enforced on the server rather than by hiding the button.
Our answer: Permissions go down to the individual button — settle payment, apply discount, void an item, see a cost price — and every one is re-checked on the server.
What to ask: Ask what it costs per order. Anything charging a percentage of the bill is an aggregator wearing a software badge, and the cost grows with you.
Our answer: Your own ordering site, QR table ordering and WhatsApp ordering all run on your own menu and your own address, with no commission on any order at any volume.
What to ask: Ask about the credit book. A regular who pays at the end of the month is normal here and invisible to software written for somewhere else.
Our answer: The Khata is built in: a bill goes on a named customer's book at the till, the ledger tracks what is owed, and payments come off it with a receipt. Aged debt has its own report.
What to ask: Ask which languages, and whether the layout flips for right-to-left rather than just translating the words into a left-to-right screen.
Our answer: English, Arabic, Urdu, French, Russian and Spanish, with a true right-to-left layout for Arabic and Urdu. On a multi-branch account each branch picks its own language and currency.
What to ask: Ask for an export before you sign, not after. Software you cannot leave is a decision you only get to make once.
